Gondolas over Rotorua

The same afternoon into evening as the Waitomo trip, we took advantage of a voucher that enabled us to ride a gondola up to a hilltop restaurant with a fine view of the city. There was an outdoor path around the restaurant. This perspective of the gondolas from that path was too good not to shoot.

The view inspired panoramic shots. I took several, but this evening shot gives a good idea of the spread Rotorua. It is indeed a city by New Zealand standards. If you notice the brighter lights to the right of the center, know that as we drove through there we suddenly felt transported back to the States as we passed by a Mobil station, a McDonalds, a Burger King and a KFC, all together in a row. The traffic flow didn’t allow for a stop for a photo, but I’ll remember that as a moment that stood out like a sore thumb. It was most strange.
