20170919 Iceland Smithsonian Tues. Day
The Smithsonian Tour started Monday morning and after an introductory breakfast, we visited a Geothermal power plant which was very interesting, but not at all photogenic. We then went to the first night’s accommodations and settled in. Tuesday we did the Golden Circle Tour, which included The Golden Waterfall, Geysir (which is the origin of our geyser) and bubbling springs), Thingvellir National Park which is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet to create the Rift valley. Fascinating geography! but we were unable to make “Vulture Stops” because we were on a bus with 29 other people. This was the downside of doing a bus tour like this. It wasn’t over-crowded and they were all good people, but the only stops, for the most part, were fully scheduled. If we return, the Rift Valley calls!
